This month brings a number of EPM Cloud Platform updates. Here are the updates for July 2024. Updates will go to test environments July 5th and prod environments July 19th. Here are the few that caught my eye.
Removal of Non-Redwood Themes
It’s finally here, the Redwood Experience will be automatically applied to all EPM Cloud environments using non-Redwood. You will still be able to customize the display by selecting Redwood themes of Oracle, Custom Light, or Custom Dark, and then adding custom logos and background images.
New Application Role: Access Control – View
This role will allow users to view reports related to user security. These reports include Role Assignment, User Login, and User Group.
SIMULATECONCURRENTUSAGE Command and REST API Updated to Support Rulesets Simulation
The command is being updated to include running rulesets.
Password Encryption File Created Through Groovy Scripts to be Retained Indefinitely
This is certainly a good improvement. Though I hadn’t experienced it, I had heard of instances where the automatic deletion of the password file caused problems for users and administrators. Retaining the encrypted password file negates the need for re-running the Groovy command unnecessarily.
Upgrading All Environments from Non-Hybrid Essbase Version to Hybrid Essbase Version
Oracle has communicated the lead-up to this change for awhile now, so it should come as no surprise. Per Oracle, “If your environments are selected for Essbase upgrade, you must have already received a notification. This change affects the Essbase version used in EPM Cloud; it does not affect the cube configuration in your application. For example, if the application is configured to use non-hybrid cubes, this update will not change it to use hybrid cubes.” If this change affects your environments, I recommend reviewing all the information Oracle has provided to ensure you don’t have problems.
New Audit Type: Application Administration
This is an interesting addition to audit tracking. This new audit type tracks changes made to the login level for an application. This means Service Administrators can track the events related to when the application was enabled for All Users or only for Service Administrators. I normally enable all the audit types when setting up an application, it’s always good to have the information available for troubleshooting.
Job Scheduling in Data Management and Data Integration
The Job Scheduler console will include Data Management and Data Integration jobs, providing consistency in scheduling functionality. It will only apply to Planning initially, other business processes will be updated in a future release.
Fixed Issues in Forms 2.0 and Dashboard 2.0
I am a fan of Forms 2.0, but I must admit it has been frustrating at times using the forms. Scrolling is painful on large forms, there is serious lag time with the form rendering. Hopefully, this is one of the fixes.
As usual, there are lots of other updates in the July release that may be of more interest to you. I encourage you to read the full document and be prepared when environments are updated.
As always, happy EPM’ng!
