Here are the updates for September 2024. Like last month, there are no updates to Planning, but there are a few for EPM Cloud Platform. Plus, a really cool update to FreeForm. Updates will go to test environments September 6th and prod environments September 20th. Here are the ones that caught my eye.
FreeForm Now Supports IPM Insights, Auto Predict, and Predictive Planning
This is a fantastic addition to FreeForm. I have been digging into Insights in Planning over the last few months and it is an extremely powerful tool in the EPM toolbox. There are some differences with it in FreeForm, notably that Calendars are required and since a Time dimension is not required in FreeForm you will need to identify another dimension in the Calendar to hold time information. Also noteworthy is that Predictive Planning in Smart View is not supported in FreeForm.
exportAppAudit EPM Automate Command Updated to Generate the Audit Data for a Custom Period
Previously, this command let you specify the number of days to export. Now we will be able to specify a start and end date for the audit data.
Enhanced ASO Cube Dimensions Table in Activity Report
The activity report is being updated to include more information about Runtime Stored Levels and Bits Used, which will help in diagnosing ASO rule performance issues.
Updated EPM Books Extension for Smart View
General improvements and defect fixes to the Books extension. You should always apply extension updates when they are released.
Upcoming Changes to the Permission Required to Create Forms, Dashboards, and Library Folders
Currently planned for the 24.10 release, permissions to create forms, dashboards, and sub folders will be changed such that Power Users will need write access to the folder with the forms/dashboards/sub folders.
As usual, there are other updates in the September release that may be of more interest to you. While this month is light compared with other releases, I think the FreeForm update is a big deal. IPM is cutting-edge and to me it demonstrates that Oracle is at the forefront of incorporating AI into EPM. When I first looked at the September updates yesterday, there was a new feature listed in Narrative Reporting that reinforces my opinion of Oracle and AI. I was surprised this morning that the readiness document no longer listed this feature. I won’t reveal what it was since we don’t know when it will come out, but it is definitely a big thing for NR. I encourage you to read the full document and be prepared when environments are updated.
As always, happy EPM’ng!
