EPM May 2025 Updates

Oracle EPM updates for May 2025 are out. Is it really May already? Time is flying! There is nothing specific to Planning, but as seems to be the norm now, there are several for the Cloud EPM Platform. Updates will go to test environments May 2^nd and prod environments May 16^th. Here’s my summary of what I found interesting.

New Copy Pipeline Feature in Data Integration

This is a logical addition to last month’s release of Copy Integration. Data Integration continues to get some very useful enhancements.

New Data Push Support for Cross Application Data Maps

This is a big one. Previously, cross application data pushes could only be executed as a Smart Push. Now the Data Map can be run on its own. Details of the data push will show in the Job Console of both source and target environments.

Updated EPM Books Extension for Smart View

There is an updated Smart View extension for EPM Books. As always, I recommend updating Smart View extensions when they are available.

Generating Insights and Predictions for Dynamic Calc Members

This is another big one. Insights and predictions can now be generated using Dynamic Calc parents. Forecast Variance & Bias Insights and Anomaly Insights will not need any additional configurations other than pointing source data to a dynamic member. But Prediction Insights will need extra setup, a new UDA called HSP_DYN_PREDICT needs to be utilized. Read the release notes to get full details.

Platform Reports Library Opens Reports and Books Directly in Excel

This is a nice enhancement to the user experience. Previously, to open a Report in Excel it had to be launched as PDF and then exported. Now there will be an icon to open directly to Excel.

Ability to Add Instructions to Dashboards in Dashboard 2.0

Another nice enhancement to the user experience. Previously, the information icon on a dashboard showed name and path. That information will be moved to the Actions menu. The information icon will then show instructions similar to what forms display.

New Navigation Flow Option: User Access View

This will be very helpful when designing navigation flows. This option will give us a way to preview the runtime view for any user assigned to a group associated with the navigation flow.

Generative AI (GenAI) Machine Learning (ML) Property File Changes

The default Machine Learning properties files are being updated to accommodate new features and fixes. If you have customized any of those files, you will need to download the new defaults and update with your changes.

Updated Narrative Reporting Extension for Smart View

There is an updated Smart View extension for Narrative Reporting. As always, I recommend updating Smart View extensions when they are available.

IMPORTANT Actions and Considerations

There are several items I want to highlight from the Important Actions and Considerations section. I’m finding that each month there is more useful information contained in this section.

Deprecation of Java 8 for EPM Automate

EPM Automate will discontinue the use of Java 8 and instead start using Java 17. This will be effective with the August (25.08) update. Windows users of EPM Automate are not affected by this change because the Windows installer ships with the required Java distribution. However, the use of EPM Automate on Linux/UNIX operating systems is dependent on a user installed a Java version, so users of such operating systems must update to Java 17 to continue using EPM Automate.

Cube Refresh to Validate for Conflicting Metadata Names

In a future update, Cube Refresh will validate for conflicting metadata (member or dimension names). If an application is found to have conflicting metadata names, the Cube Refresh will complete with a new status called “Completed with Warnings.”
