The October 2025 Oracle EPM updates are out. There are lots of Planning updates. I have noted several of interest, but I highly suggest reading through all in the Oracle document. Updates will go to test environments October 3rd and prod environments October 17th. Here’s my summary.
New IPM-Manage Application Role
This is perfectly timed, I was just discussing this with some colleagues that we needed a role for users to be able to configure IPM. This new role will let users configure Insights, Auto Predict, and Advanced Prediction.
New userLoginReport EPM Automate Command
This provides another way to get user login information. Until now, you had to generate the report from the Access Control page. Now you can use EPM Automate and automate the process.
New REST APIs to Manage User Variables
REST APIs are now available to manage the following for User Variables.
- Create User Variables
- Update User Variables
- Get All User Variables
- Get a User Variable Using Its ID
- Delete One User Variable
- Delete User Variable Definitions
Mandatory Groovy Update Scheduled for 25.12
This had been planned for November, it’s been delayed until December. The Groovy engine is being updated with stricter validation rules. Check your scripts ASAP and make necessary corrections now to avoid problems later. I wrote recently about the script validator.
New Version of Oracle Smart View for Office
Smart View is getting updated to version 25.200. The following new features are included.
- Enhancements to IPM Insights in Smart View
- Simplified Workflow for Setting User Variables When Opening a Form or Dashboard
- New Roles of Job Viewer and Job Manager in Job Console
- Control Preservation of Numeric Comments in Ad Hoc Grids
- Open Artifacts Using Web Launch in New Workbook
- Constants Added to HypGetOption / HypSetOption VBA Functions
I recommend updating Smart View when new versions are released. I did not always recommend this, but the releases have been more stable than in years past and there are too many important features that you will be without until you update.
Updated EPM Books Extension for Smart View
There is an updated EPM Books extension for Smart View. As always, I recommend updating Smart View extensions when they are available.
De-Support of Legacy Features
We have been talking about this one for a while now. Forms 1.0 and Dashboard 1.0 will be de-supported as of this update. Existing environments will have the ability to switch back to 1.0, but those forms and dashboards will not be supported. All new environments will default to 2.0 and have no ability to switch back. If you have not already converted your 1.0 forms and dashboards to 2.0, I recommend you do so ASAP.
Predictive Cash Forecasting Support of Up to 100 Forecast Days in Daily Rolling Forecasts
I’m going to take credit for this one. In our recent implementation of PCF, we had the need for more than the maximum of 45 days for daily rolling forecasts. We discussed this with Oracle and they provided a one-off patch, which worked perfectly and made the client very happy. Now everyone can benefit from it.
Improvements to Update Process
To improve the update process, only dimensions and calculation manager artifacts that have been updated will be loaded. Previously, all the artifacts would be loaded. This enhancement helps with managing updates and provides for more efficient tracking of changes.
Improved Workforce Forecast Calculations
This is a good improvement. Workforce calculations will now be based on the Forecast scenario start date instead of calculating the entire year. You can also apply this functionality to other scenarios by using the UDA Hsp_Forecast.
Support Business Expansion By Incrementally Enabling Custom Dimensions in Financials
I definitely like this! We can now enable custom dimensions in the Financials module after enablement. Previously, any custom dimensions had to be added during enablement of Financials, we could not add after the fact. This is a big improvement, the application would need to be rebuilt in the past when new dimensions were needed. Now as the business grows and changes, we can add more dimensions if needed.
Enhanced Projects Integration with Capital for Common Custom Dimensions
Integration between Projects and CapEx is being enhanced. For common dimensions, data for all members will be pushed from Projects to CapEx. Previously, only aggregated values were pushed.
Enhanced Projects Integration with Financials for Common Custom Dimensions
Like the above for Projects and CapEx, integration between Projects and Financials is being enhanced. For common dimensions, data for all members will be pushed from Projects to Financials. Previously, only aggregated values were pushed.
IMPORTANT Actions and Considerations
I did not see anything new of interest from the Important Actions and Considerations section.
This was a good release for Planning updates, I only highlighted a portion of what is coming. Check out the full document and be prepared when environments are updated.
As always, happy EPM’ng!
