Another month has gone by and another update is coming from Oracle for EPM. At first glance in the Planning section, it states there were no new features. But this is misleading, because there is one in the Common section that I think is a pretty big deal. Forms 2.0 and Dashboard 2.0 functionality is now available! Listed below are all the November updates that caught my attention.
Forms 2.0 and Dashboard 2.0
There’s a lot going on with forms and dashboards. Runtime improvements, standardized menus, consistency between web forms and Smart View forms, revitalized dashboard designer, grid chart type that supports data write-back, new user interface for associating business rules, and so much more.
As far as converting existing forms, no migration is needed to use Forms 2.0. There is an application setting available and the forms will render based on selection of 1.0 or 2.0. Dashboards previously created can be converted to 2.0, and new dashboards can be created as 1.0 or 2.0. Per the Oracle documentation, “Forms 1.0 and 2.0 and Dashboard 1.0 and 2.0 versions will continue to coexist in the same business process at the same time”. Unless I come across an odd use case, I will likely set my applications to Forms 2.0 and convert existing dashboards to 2.0.
Displaying Real-Time Progress Status for Data Maps and Smart Push
The Job Details page will now show comprehensive information about the data push. This should help with troubleshooting and performance monitoring.
Run Pipeline Integration Type and Task Type in Task Manager
A new Process Automation integration called Run Pipeline will be available in Task Manager. This will allow you to incorporate data integration Pipelines within the EPM application or across multiple EPM applications, simplifying the load process.
Ability to Migrate Financial Reporting Saved Objects to Reports in the Platform
If you are using Reports in the EPM application, you can now migrate saved objects (grids, text boxes and images) from Financial Reporting to Reports. This is only applicable to Reports within the application and not in Narrative Reporting.
Additional Groovy Examples and Information to Help with DataGridBuilder
I’m always looking for examples to help me with Groovy, so anything Oracle can provide is great. Two examples are provided, one to build a grid on behalf of the user and one to build on behalf of the system user.
Standardized Application Role Names
Application role names are being standardized across EPM Cloud. I don’t really have much to say about this, I think it’s generally a good idea to create commonality across all the different EPM products.
There is lots of other information in the release and I recommend you review it in detail. I’ve only listed the items that were of interest to me, there is likely other information you could find useful. These updates will be released to test environments on November 3rd and production environments on November 17th.
As always, happy EPM’ng!
