Smart View Error: Invalid axis type for dimension Entity

Encountered the error “Invalid axis type for dimension Entity” in Smart View at a client.

I had never seen this error before and couldn’t find anything when I googled it. I was able to sit with a user experiencing the issue and quickly saw what the problem was. The EPBCS application was using the Financials framework cube and a custom BSO cube. The user was opening a form connected to Financials, but then going to the Active Connections on the Smart View ribbon and selecting the custom BSO cube. This caused the form to try and connect to a different plan type than what it was built to use, thus causing the error.
