Curse You Perry the Platypus, errr, I mean Suppress Missing Blocks!!!

Sorry about the title, my son has been binging on Phineas and Ferb for several days, which is fine, I like the show almost as much as he does and it’s a heck of a lot better than some other shows he watches.

Anyways, one of the common issues that comes up from users in Smart View is ad hoc retrievals not working.  They get this error:

Initially, one might think Smart View Data Options are set to suppress rows for no data and/or zero.  But when we check the settings, we see that’s not the case.

If Suppress Rows is not enabled, why doesn’t the sheet refresh?  Scrolling down in the Data Options window reveals the issue.

In the Mode section, Suppress Missing Blocks is enabled.  Uncheck this box and save as default.

The sheet now refreshes.

Suppress Missing Blocks is enabled as default when Smart View is installed.  Whenever I assist a user with an install of Smart View, this is the first setting I change, I never leave it enabled.  I don’t know of a use case where having this enabled is necessary.

As always, happy EPM’ng!
