EPM February 2024 Updates

Unlike last month, there are EPM updates for February 2024. Updates will hit test environments February 2nd and prod environments February 16th. Here’s what caught my eye.

Performance Validation

I have to admit I was not aware of this program, it has apparently been on hold and is now coming back. The purpose is to check the EPM business process to ensure it is performing as expected. This can either be self-performed or you can request Oracle to do it. Unfortunately, the link to Oracle documentation with the details of the program is not active at the time of this writing.

Plan to Upgrade All Environments from Non-Hybrid Essbase Version to Hybrid Essbase Version

This upgrade is planned to happen within the next 3 months. Oracle is providing a utility to help identify member formulas on non-hybrid applications so they can be fixed before the update is implemented. Per the guidance from Oracle, “If your environment is on a non-hybrid Essbase version, validating your member formulas and fixing them before the upgrade will ensure a smooth transition when your environment is upgraded to a hybrid Essbase version.”

EPM Automate Scripts to Notify Users when the Daily Maintenance is Complete

I normally configure my applications to perform the daily maintenance during non-business hours, but this can be a useful feature in situations where there really is not a non-business period of time. Since the daily maintenance often takes less than the allotted one hour, notifying users when it is complete can be quite helpful.

EPM Automate Updated Sample Scripts to Make them Executable

I am a big believer in reusing scripts and having samples as a starting point. Oracle is adding to the library of samples scripts with generic Windows and Linux/UNIX scripts.

Updates to SIMULATECONCURRENTUSAGE Command

I recently wrote about this command. A new function is being added to include Reports artifacts in the simulation.

Data Integration Pipeline

New job types are being added to Pipeline for EDM export jobs. From the document, “The Export Dimension by Name (EDMCS) and Export Dimension and Export Dimension Mapping by Name (EDMCS) job types enable customers to distribute a view of an individual dimension and dimension mapping changes to downstream applications using the Pipeline.” As a side note, I had the opportunity this week to play around a bit with Pipeline. I am planning to write about it soon.

Updated Narrative Reporting Extension for Smart View

The NR extension for Smart View is being updated and as always, I recommend installing updated extensions as soon as they become available.

Of course, there are other updates in the February release that may be of more interest to you than the ones I’ve highlighted, so I encourage you to read the full document and be prepared when environments are updated.

As always, happy EPM’ng!
